Your consultation –what does it involve?

Nutritional Therapy Works offers personal consultations on a one-to-one basis. In certain circumstances, for example for clients on the Metabolic Balance® programme, group consultations may be available.

Before your first appointment you will be asked to complete a detailed health, nutrition and lifestyle questionnaire. The information that you provide allows Nutritional Therapy Works to prepare for your consultation in advance, maximising the time available in the actual consultation for issues of concern.

Occasionally the information that you provide may mean that you are asked to seek medical advice to investigate any potential underlying disease prior to attending the consultation.

At the initial consultation, which typically lasts 75 minutes, a detailed picture of your life story will be taken. This will include your health and family history, current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, as well as stress levels, psychological and emotional factors and dietary and exercise habits.

When it is appropriate, functional tests may be recommended. The results of these tests facilitate the development of a targeted and individualised nutritional programme and are invaluable tools for monitoring progress through the programme.

What do you receive?

You will then be provided with:

  • explanations of dietary and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to any symptoms; and
  • a personalised dietary and lifestyle programme designed to meet your individual requirements.

Dietary supplements may be recommended, when necessary or potentially beneficial to boost the nutritional programme, based on both scientific evidence and your specific needs or, in some cases, following analysis of any functional test results. If a client is on medication, a check will be made for any potential drug-nutrient interactions.

How many consultations will you need?

This depends upon your individual circumstances, although clients will always be seen for an initial and a follow-up consultation. Follow-up consultations last 45 minutes, in which time the client’s progress will be assessed and their nutritional and supplement programme adjusted to take account of their progress and any remaining concerns. Clients with more complex issues may request further appointments to meet their nutritional health goals.

I feel strongly that our health is not entirely predetermined and that key to our wellbeing, how we feel and how we look is the food we eat and the lifestyles we lead.

“I took her to see Vicki and after 3 consultations she has been eczema free for 6 months now. I never considered that her diet had anything to do with her skin but clearly it did.”
